Hostile Environment and First Aid Training

Our 12-month TV and film health and safety training calendar is packed with a comprehensive range of training and refresher courses containing all the knowledge and skills your team will need.

We can prepare your people

Hostile Environment and First Aid Training (HEFAT): We deliver HEFAT to the News, TV and Film sector. We prepare journalists and other programme makers, who are deploying to hostile environments or undertaking challenging productions at home, by providing a mix of classroom, practical and immersive scenarios activities focussing on personal safety, travel security and first aid. We run our HET courses for a range of media clients, including BBC, ITN, NBC, CBS, CNN, production companies and freelancers, at our UK training base in Kent. Our team has global reach and we have delivered HET to media clients across the globe, including USA, India, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Sudan, South Sudan, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, and Brazil.

Our HET model also supports corporate and non-corporate clients, whose project work takes them to challenging locations. We can provide residential HET tailored to your needs. Our clients include ERM, Anglo-American and Human Rights Watch.

Security Awareness in Fragile Environments (SAFE): North Star Safety is proud to be the UK government’s trusted training partner of choice to deliver a portfolio of ‘Security Awareness in Fragile Environments’ (SAFE) training courses for UK Government, civil servants and sub-contractors deploying to challenging international locations. We deliver weekly courses covering personal safety, conflict management, self-defence, security awareness and first aid training.

First Aid/Medical Training: We provide a portfolio of first aid and medical training to a range of media and corporate clients. We can deliver training to you at our UK training base, or at a UK location of your preference.

Travel Safety Training: We can provide specialist training for media productions travelling to and working in remote or challenging environments (extreme cold, deserts, jungle, rainforest, high altitude), or for news teams covering events where there may be elevated risks. We will work with you to understand your risk profile and we will tailor a package of training that can either be delivered at our training base or at your premises.
